R v KUMAR [2024] NZHC 1039 [1 May 2024]

[1]    On 6 March 2024, Mr Kumar filed a notice of application seeking the continuation of his interim name suppression. The application is scheduled to be heard tomorrow.

[2]    I now have a memorandum from Mr Mansfield KC advising that Mr Kumar abandons his application for continued name suppression. He requests that the current orders continue until 5 pm on Thursday, 2 May 2024, to enable Mr Kumar’s family to speak to those who will be affected by the lapse of name suppression.

[3]I make the following directions:

(a)Mr Kumar’s interim name suppression will lapse at 5 pm on Thursday, 2 May 2024.

(b)The application scheduled to be heard on Thursday, 2 May 2024 is vacated.
