Young Offenders Amendment (Application) Regulation 1998

Young Offenders Act 1997

His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Young Offenders Act 1997.

Explanatory note

The object of this Regulation is to restrict the application of Part 5 of the Young Offenders Act 1997 relating to youth justice conferences, and related provisions, to offences committed within specified local police command areas, until 6 April 1999, being a date that is 12 months after the commencement of the power to make the regulation.

This Regulation is made under the Young Offenders Act 1997, including Schedule 3, in particular clauses 1 and 3, and section 73 (the general regulation-making power).

1 Name of Regulation

This Regulation is the Young Offenders Amendment (Application)

Regulation 1998.

2 Amendment of Young Offenders Regulation 1997

The Young Offenders Regulation 1997 is amended as set out in

Schedule 1.

Insert after Part 4:

Part 5 Application of Act

21 Limitation of application of Act

Until 6 April 1999, the following provisions of the Act

apply only to offences occurring in the areas of the

police local area commands set out in Schedule 1:

(a) Part 5,
(b) sections 9, 14, 20, 2 1 and 25, in so far as they

relate to the operation of Part 5.
