2 Workplace Health and Safety No. 228, 1992 ˙ Short title 1. This standard may be cited as the Workplace Health and Safety Special Standard 1992 . ˙ Definitions 2. In this special standard— “cylinder” means a stainless steel cylinder that was— (a) designed to contain liquefied petroleum gas for automotive use; and (b) manufactured by Mytton-Rodd Ltd. to Victorian registered design No.V889-79 for design compliance to Australian Standard 1210 Interpretation No.1. ˙ Purpose of special standard 3. This special standard relates to the following circumstances— (a) certain vehicles that are workplaces, for example taxis, are fitted, for the supply of fuel, with cylinders that are suspected to leak fuel; (b) in the opinion of the Minister the continued use of these cylinders gives rise, or is likely to give rise, to a dangerous situation in or near the workplaces where they are used; (c) to provide a remedy, each cylinder must be tested as a matter of urgency; (d) if a cylinder does not achieve the standard specified in this special standard the cylinder must not be further used to store or supply fuel. ˙ Application of special standard 4. This special standard applies to a cylinder mentioned in section 2.
3 Workplace Health and Safety No. 228, 1992 ˙ Standard to be achieved 5. The standard to be achieved in relation to a cylinder, on testing under section 6, is that specified in— (a) section 2 of Australian Standard 2337.2; and (b) section 4 of Australian Standard 1425. ˙ Time for achievement of standard 6. The owner of a cylinder, who has not had the cylinder tested in accordance with this special standard, must ensure that the cylinder is tested— (a) within 30 days of the date of commencement of this special standard; or (b) at an earlier or later date as directed by an inspector. ˙ Use of cylinders 7. A person must not use a cylinder to store or supply fuel if— (a) the cylinder is not tested in accordance with this special standard; or (b) on being tested in accordance with this special standard—the cylinder fails to achieve the standard mentioned in section 5.
