VVORKERS' COMPENSA- TION ACTS [ASSENTED TO 20TH AUGUST 1923.J ' ~ : ~ ~~ ~ ~r BE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority 0: the same, as follows : - Short title 1. The following amendments are made in section of B. 3. three of the Principal Act:- (a) Before the definition of " Dependants" in sub- section one, the following definition is inserted :- Coaster. " " Coaster "-Any ship, vessel, boat, or othEr craft, wherever registered, which for the time being voyages only between any two or more ports or places in Queensland." (b) To the definition of " Queensland ship" in sub- section one, the words" or (e) a coaster" are added. (c) After subsection two, the following subsection is inserted :- "[2A.] Where any person (in this subsection referred to as "the principal ") in the course of or for the pur- poses of his trade or business enters into a contract with any other person or persons (in this subsection referred to as "the contractor") under which the contractor agrees-- (i.) To supply timber and such timber is obtained from trees felled by the contractor or his wages-men (whether such trees are the pro- perty of the principal or the contractor or any other person) ; or (ii.) '1'0 fell or ringbark trees or cut scrub; or (iii.) To clear land of stumps or logs; or * 6 Geo. y. No. 35 and Amending Acts, supra, page 9851.

To perform any other work or class of work specified by the Governor in Council by Order in Council published in the Gazette; and the contractor does not either sublet the contract or employ wages-men, or, though employing wages-men, actually performs any part of the work himself, the contractor shall for the purposes of this Act be deemed to be a worker employed by the principal: Provided that such contractor and all such wages- men shall be deemed to be covered by the policy held by the principal subsisting for the time being." 3. In subsection one of section 14B of the Prin- Amendment cipal Act, the words" Subject to this Act, where such of 11. aB. worker has not been employed in Queensland in any employment mentioned in the second column of the table of diseases hereUnder set forth on or after the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, but has been engaged in any such employment in Queensland prior to that date" are repealed, and the words "Subject to this Act, where such worker has been employed in Queensland in any employment mentioned in the second column of the table of diseases hereunder set forth, befora or on or after the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen" are inserted in lieu thereof.
