WORKERS' ACCOMMODA- TION ACTS [ASSENTED TO 25TH NOVEMBER, 1937.] AMENDMENT ACT OF 1937. B E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consen1t of the Legis- lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows;- Short title 1. This Act may be cited as "The Workers' ::!truction. Accommodation Acts Amendment Act of 1937," and shall be read as one with *" The Workers' Accommodation Acts, 1915 to 1921," herein referred to as the Principal Act. Collective title. The Principal Act and this Act may collectively be cited as " The Workers' Accommodation Acts, 1915 to 1937." Amendments of the Principal Act. Amendment 2. Section six of the Principal Act is amended, as of s. 6. follows ;- (a) The following words are added to paragraph (xv.) of subsection two of the said section, as follows ;- " and all tanks or vessels used for the storage of water or to which water is pumped for the use of employees shall be covered and shall be effectively screened to the satisfaction of the inspector· in order to prevent access thereto by birds or animals." (b) The following new paragraphs (xix.) to (xxi.), inclusive, are added to the said subsection two as follows ;- "(xix.) Every kitchen shall, according to the number of persons to be cooked for as herei.n- after prescribed, be provided with a cooking stove or range, or cooking stoves or ranges, to be approved by the inspector, and which shall comply with the following requirements, namely;- Where not more than eight persons are to be cooked for, a cooking stove or range the oven of which. stove or range shall be not less in size than fourteen inches by fourteen inches by eighteen inches inside measurement, * 6 Geo. Where more than eight persons and not more than twelve persons are to be cooked for, a cooking stove or range the oven of which stove or range shall be not less in size than sixteen inches by fourteen inches by twenty inches inside measurement, Where more than twelve persons and not more than twenty persons are to be cooked for, two cooking stoves or ranges or a double oven cooking stove or double oven range the oven of each of which stoves or ranges, or each oven of such double oven stove or double oven range, as the case may be, shall be not less in size than fourteen inches by sixteen inches by sixteen inches inside measurement, Where more than twenty persons are to be cooked for, two cooking stoves or ranges or a double oven cooking stove or double oven range the oven of each of which stoves or ranges, or each oven of such double oven stove or double oven range, as the case may be, shall be not less in size than nineteen inches by nineteen inches by sixteen inches inside measurement; (xx.) Every kitchen, dining room, store room, and meat house shall have all doors, windows, or other openings therein screened with wire gauze in such a manner as to effectively prevent flies from entering such kitchen, dining room, store room, or meat house: moreover, such screening shall be constructed to the satisfaction of the inspector; (xxi.) All accommodation under this Act shall be maintained in a reasonable state of repair to the satisfaction of the inspector." 3. Section eleven of the Principal Act is amended Amendment by omitting the words "not exceeding twenty-five of s. 11. pounds " and by inserting in lieu thereof the words " of not less than five pounds nor more than one hundred pounds."

A new section HA is inserted after section eleven of the Principal Act, as follows :- Evidence of "[llA.] In any proceedings for an alleged offence moradkeirnagnd against this Act- service. (a) Where it is material to prove the due making and/or the contents of an order signed by an inspector then, and in every such case, any document purporting to be such order so signed by an inspector or purporting to be a copy of such order so signed by an inspector shall be admissible in evidence in such proceedings and shall, in the absence of proof beyond reasonable doubt to the contrary, be sufficient evidence of the due making and contents of the order signed by an inspector which it purports to be or of which it purports to be a copy, as the case may be; and/or (b) Where it is material to prove the due service upon any person of an order signed by an inspector then, and in every such, case, the averment in the complaint instituting such proceedings that such order was served upon the person concerned upon a particular date shall, in the absence of proof beyond reason- able doubt to the contrary, be sufficient evidence that such order was duly served upon such person upon the date so averred. For the purposes of this section a document pur- porting to be a copy of an order signed by an inspector shall be a document which- (i.) Purports to be a duplicate original or carbon copy of such order; or (ii.) Purports to be certified by the inspector who signed such order or by some other inspector to be a copy of such order." Amendment 5. Subsection two of section fourteen of the Principal of s. 14 (2). Act is amended by omitting the words " not exceeding fifty pounds " and by inserting in lieu thereof the words " of not less than five pounds nor more than fifty pounds."

This Act may be cited as " The Land Acts and Short title Other Acts Amendment Act of 1937," and shall, so far as ~ ~ ~struction. any amendments of or references to *" The Land Acts, 1910 to 1936," are concerned, be read as one with" The Land Acts, 1910 to 1936," herein referred to as the Principal Act. The Principal Act and this Act mew collectively be C:o:lective cited as " The Land Act8, 1910 to 1937." tlt e. 2.
