An Act to impose a Fee upon the Registration

of Spirit Merchants. [18th March, 1857.]

WH E R E A S it is expedient t o r equ i re p a y m e n t Reg is t ra t ion of Spir i t M e r c h a n t s unde r t h e Act of Council

of Fees upon the

passed in t he t h i r t e e n t h year of t h e re ign of H e r present Majesty

Queen Victor ia n u m b e r twenty-s ix Be i t therefore enacted by t h e

Queen ' s Mos t Excel len t Majesty b y and wi th t he advice and consent of t h e Legislat ive Council and Legislat ive Assembly of N e w South Wales in Pa r l i amen t assembled and by the au tho r i t y of t h e same as f l o w s : —

1. W i t h i n t h e period of two weeks from and after t he t ime of

t he reg i s t ra t ion of	t h e n a m e a n d descr ipt ion	of	t he	premises	of	any
Spir i t M e r c h a n t and also w i th in	t h e	period	of two	weeks	after	a n y

such regis t ra t ion shall be renewed unde r t h e provisions of t h e four­

t e e n t h section of t h e said Act of Counci l t h i r t e e n t h Vic tor ia n u m b e r

twenty-s ix t h e person whose n a m e shall have been so regis tered or renewed as aforesaid shal l pay to t h e Colonial Treasure r or t o such

o the r '

other person or persons as may he duly appointed for t h a t purpose t h e sum of t h i r t y pounds if h is said registered premises are s i tua ted

wi th in t he boundar ies of t h e City of Sydney or t w e n t y pounds if

s i tua ted e lsewhere w i th in t h e Colony of N e w South Wales which said paymen t shal l be m a d e in respect of each of several registered premises in cases in wh ich t h e business of sell ing spiri ts shall be carr ied on b y

any one merchan t or firm in several dist inct premises Provided t h a t

in t he present year such paymen t s shall be made on or before t he first day of J u n e n e x t and in default of any such paymen t such regis t ra t ion shall thencefor th be nu l l and void and if any such defaulter shall after t he expi ra t ion of any such period of two weeks or after the first day of J u n e in t h e presen t year sell or be engaged in t h e t r ade or business of sell ing spiri ts he shall be liable to t he penal t ies ment ioned in t he seventeenth section of t he said Ac t of Council .
