WESTPAC BANKING CORPORATION ACT 1995-
PROCLAMATION

I, the Honourable Gordon Samuels AC, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Westpac Banking Corporation Act 1995, do, by ths my Proclamation, appoint 13 December 1996 as the day on which section 8 (2)

of that Act commences.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Proclamation is to give effect to the repeal of section 2 of the Bank

of New South Wales Act 1923, which determines the kinds of business that may lawfully

be conducted by the Westpac Banking Corporation. It is intended that the scope of the

Bank’s business will in future be regulated by provisions of the Corporations Law that will apply to the bank by force of regulations made under the Westpac Banking Corporation Act 1995.
