REGULATIONS UNDER THE WEIGHTS AND MEASURES (NATIONAL STANDARDS) ACT 1960-1966.*

Amendments of the Weights and Measures (National Standards) Regulations
“ Division 6.—Density (Regulations 21-23).”
the words—
“ Division 6a.—Angle (Regulations 23a-23e).”.
“ 23a.—(1.) The units of measurement of plane angle are the units specified in the first column of the Twenty-seventh Schedule and are related to the radian, the degree or the grade, as the case may be, as respectively specified in the second column of that Schedule.
“ (2.) A unit of measurement of plane angle specified in the first column of the Twenty-seventh Schedule may be referred to by the abbreviation or symbol (if any) specified in the third column of that Schedule opposite the reference to that unit in the first column.
“ 23b.—(1.) The radian is the plane angle between two radii of a circle that cut off on the circumference an arc equal in length to the radius.
“ (2.) The degree is the plane angle between two radii of a circle that cut off on the circumference an arc that is one-three hundred and sixtieth part of the circumference.
“ (3.) The grade is the plane angle between two radii of a circle that cut off on the circumference an are that is one four hundredth part of the circumference.

“ 23c.—(1.) For all legal purposes—
(
a ) one degree shall be deemed to be equal to radians; and(
b ) one grade shall be deemed to be equal to radians,
where π is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter of the circle.
“ (2.) For the purposes of this regulation, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter of the circle shall be deemed to be equal to 3.141592654.
“ 23d.—(1.) The unit of measurement of solid angle is the steradian.
“ (2.) The steradian may be referred to by the abbreviation ‘ sr ’.
“ 23e. The steradian is the solid angle that has its vertex in the centre of a sphere and cuts off an area of the surface of the sphere equal to that of a square with sides of length equal to the radius of the sphere.”.
