E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Council and Legislative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- Short title 1. The Principal Act and this Act may be cited together as "The Weights and Measures Aots, 1906 to 1912." Al110ndment 2. To the definition of "Inspector," in section two of of s. 2. the Principal Act, the words "the term includes a sub- inspector" are added. Amendment 3. In the first paragraph of section six of the of s. 6. Principal Act, after the word "inspectors," the word " sub-inspectors" is inserted. iF 6 Edw. VII. No. 19, infra, page 5805.

The following provision is added to section seven Ame dment of the Principal Act :_ of s. • For the purposes of this Act, the Governor in Council may, by Order in Council, authorise or require any two or more Local Authorities to act together, and may prescribe the mode of· such joint action and of defraying the costs thereof. Every such Order in Council, upon pUblication in the Gazette, shall have the same effect as if it were enacted in this Act. 5. For the list of weights and measures set forth in Amendment section nine of the Principal Act, the following list is of s. 9. substituted, and the said section shall be read and construed accordingly:- STANDARD WEIGHTS AND MEASURES. The following provision is added to section twelve of @. 12. of the Principal Act, namely : - "The ton of standard weight for broom "millet shall be two thousand such pounds." 7. After section seventeen of the Principal Act, the following section is inserted :- Balancing" [17 A.] Nothing which is not ordinarily part of a ~ f' ~ ~ ~ ~ ¥ ~ ~ ng weighing instrument shall be used. to make it balance, nstruments. unless by an inspector when necessary tD make an adjust- ment. No weighing instrument with removable parts, the removal of which would affect the accuracy of the instru- ment, shall be stamped unless the parts lire such that the instrument cannot be used without them. Amendment 8. The following words a.re added to the first para- of 8.20. graph of section twenty of the Principal Act :-" and to be in accordance with the provisions of this Act." Amendment 9. In the second paragraph of section twenty-one of ofs.21. the Principal Act, the words "he is requested by the owner" are repealed, and the words "in his opinion it is necessary" are inserted in lieu thereof. Amendment . "10. The following provision is added to section twenty- of s. 28. three of the Principal Act : - Provided that the inspector may, in cases where he deems it proper so to do, in lieu of immediately seizing any weight, measure, or weighing instrument So found to be light,incorrect, or unjust, give to the person found in possession of the same notice, in writing, to have the same corrected and made true and just within fourteen days

Weights and Meruures Act Amendment Act. 5719 • or such shorter period as he may deem fit. and in the meantime to cease to use the same; and, if such notice is complied with to the satisfaction of the inspector, he shall not take any further action unde'!' this section, but, if such notice is not so complied with, the inspector shall, at the expiration of the time specified in the said notice, seize the weights, measures, or weighing instl'Uments in question; and the same consequences as to forfeiture and penalty shall ensue as if no such notice had been given by him. 11. After section thirty of the Principal Act, the following section is inserted : - [BOA.] All weights, measures, and weighing instru- Disposal of ments forfeited under this Act shall be rendered useless fO~ ~ ~ d &; and shall be disposed of as the Chief Inspector directs. we!, c. 12 The following amendments are made in section Amendment thirty-one of the Principal Act :_ of 8.31. After subsection (vii.), the following subsection is inserted:- [ViiA.] The limitation of error which may be permitted iu any weight, measure, or weighing instrument. In subsection (x.) the words "required to be provided in certain mills, trades, or under certain circumstances" are repealed. The following words are added to subsection (xi.) :- "Fixing the amount or proportion of travelling expenses and porterage incurred in connection with the comparison, adjustment, verification, or stamping of weighing instruments which. shall be payable by the owners of such instru- ments." After subsection (xi.), the following subsection is inserted :- (xii.) Providing for all or any Purp9ses, whether general or to meet particular cases, that may be convenient for the administration of this Act or that may be necessary or expedient to carry out the objects and purposes of this Act, and, where there may be in this Act no provision or no sufficient provision in I'espect of any matter or. thing necessary or expedient to give effect to this Act, providing for and supplying such omission or insufficiency.
