WEIGHTS AND MEASURES ACT 1915—REGULATION

(Relating to standardised packaging sizes)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Weights and Measures Act 1915, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement

1. This Regulation commences on 1 January 1991.

Repeal of Part 6 (Packing of certain articles in prescribed quantities) of the Weights and Measures Regulations

2. Part 6 (including the Tables to that Part) of the Weights and

Measures Regulations 1917 is repealed.

Amendment of Part 8 (Sale of coal and firewood) of the Weights and
Measures Regulations

3. Part 8 of the Weights and Measures Regulations 1917 is amended: by omitting from Regulation 1 (b) the matter "5 feet" and by inserting instead the matter "1.6 metres";

by omitting from Regulation 4 the words "each containing 1 cwt.,

56, 28, or 14 lb";

by omitting from Regulations 6 and 9 the matter "1/2 inch"

wherever occurring and by inserting instead the matter "1

centimetre";

(d)	by omitting Regulation 7 and by inserting instead the following
Regulation :

Coal carried on vehicles for delivery

7. Coal carried on any vehicle for delivery to a purchaser must be in sacks unless all coal on the vehicle is for delivery to one purchaser and the quantity is 250 kilograms or more, in which case it may be carried in bulk.

(e)	by omitting from Regulation 8 the matter "5 cwt." and by inserting instead the matter "250 kilograms";
(f)	by omitting from Regulation 15 the matter "1 ton" and by inserting instead the matter "1 tonne";
(g)	by omitting from Regulation 17 the matter "1 mile" and by inserting instead the matter "2 kilometres";
(h)	by omitting from Schedules A and B the matter "tons cwt. qrs. lb." and "Tons cwt. qrs. lb." and by inserting instead the matter "tonnes kilograms" and "Tonnes kilograms", respectively.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Regulation repeals the provisions of the Weights and Measures Regulations

1917 which restrict the weights and measures in which various goods ("pre-packed
articles"), and coal and firewood, are permitted to be packed for sale. Law revision
amendments (metrication) are also made.
