His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following

Explanatory note
The object of this Regulation is to provide for a 3-month amnesty, commencing on 1 July 2018, for the regulation-making power).

Provision for the amnesty is to be in substantially the same terms as for the amnesty for the surrender of
prohibited weapons that operated in 2017, except that it will not apply in relation to a person who is subject
to an apprehended violence order or to an interim apprehended violence order. As was the case in the 2017
amnesty, it will also not apply to a person who is subject to a weapons prohibition order or to a firearms
prohibition order under the Firearms Act 1996.

1 Name of Regulation
This Regulation is the Weapons Prohibition Amendment (Amnesty) Regulation 2018.
2 Commencement
This Regulation commences on 1 July 2018 and is required to be published on the
NSW legislation website.

[1] Clause 49 Temporary 2018 amnesty for surrender of prohibited weapons
Omit “or to a firearms prohibition order under the Firearms Act 1996” from clause 49 (4).
Insert instead “, a firearms prohibition order under the Firearms Act 1996, an apprehended violence order or an interim apprehended violence order”.
[2] Clause 49 (6), definition of “amnesty period”
Omit the definition. Insert instead:
amnesty period means the period starting on 1 July 2018 and ending at
midnight on 30 September 2018.
