AN ORDINANCE

To amend the Water Rates Ordinance 1959-1974.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, hereby make the following Ordinance under

the Seat of Government (Administration) Act 1910-1973.

WATER RATES ORDINANCE 1975

1 . ( 1 ) This Ordinance may be cited as the Water Rates Ordinance

1975.*

(2) The Water Rates Ordinance 1959-1974f is in this Ordinance

referred to as the Principal Ordinance.

(3) The Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordinance, may

be cited as the Water Rates Ordinance 1959-1975.

2 . Section 20 of the Principal Ordinance is repealed and the

following section substituted:—

" 20. Where the person who is liable under this Ordinance for the payment of rates in respect of a parcel of land on which a meter is installed—

(a) so requests; or

(b) has incurred liability under a provision of Part II for the payment of rates in respect of the supply of a quantity of water in excess of the prescribed quantity for the purposes of that provision,

the proper authority shall cause to be given to that person notice in writing of the recording shown on the meter at the first meter reading or the quantity of water shown at a reading of the meter to have been supplied through the meter since the last occasion on which the meter was read, as the case may be.".

3. Section 31 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by inserting in sub-section ( 2 ) , after the word " n o t i c e " (first occurring), the word " on ".

4. The Principal Ordinance is amended as set out in the following

5. (1) The amendments of the Principal Ordinance effected by Part I of the table in section 4 apply in the rating year that commenced on 1 July 1975 and in subsequent rating years.

(2) The amendments of the Principal Ordinance effected by Part II of the table in section 4 apply in relation to water supplied in the first meter reading period that ends on or after 1 July 1976 and in sub­ sequent meter reading periods.

(3 ) An expression in this section that is defined in the Principal Ordinance as amended by this Ordinance has the same meaning for

the purposes of this section as it has in the Principal Ordinance as so
amended.
