I, WARREN SNOWDON, Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, make this Declaration under subsection 3C (1) of the Defence Force (Home Loans Assistance) Act 1990.

1. Name of Declaration

This Declaration is the Warlike Service — Cambodia and Somalia Declaration 2008.

1. Commencement

This Declaration is taken to have commenced on 1 January 2008.

1. Warlike service — Cambodia

For subsection 3C (1) of the Defence Force (Home Loans Assistance) Act 1990, duty is warlike service if it is rendered:

(a)    as service with the United Nations Advance Mission in Cambodia or the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia; and

(b)    in one or more of the following places:

(i)    Cambodia;

(ii)    areas in Laos and Thailand that are not more than 50 km from Cambodia; and

(c)    after 19 October 1991 and before 8 October 1993.

1. Warlike service — Somalia

For subsection 3C (1) of the Defence Force (Home Loans Assistance) Act 1990, duty is warlike service if it is rendered:

(a)    as service with the United Nations Operations in Somalia or the Unified Task Force; and

(b)    in one or more of the following places:

(i)    Somalia;

(ii)    areas in Ethiopia and Kenya that are not more than 20 km from Somalia;

(iii)    areas in Djibouti that are not more than 10 km from Somalia;

(iv)    territorial waters that are not more than 12 nautical miles from the coastline of Somalia; and

(c)    after 19 October 1992.
