War Precautions Regulations 1915—Regulation 17e—Addition.

SIR ARTHUR STANLEY, Governor of the State of Victoria and its Dependencies,
acting as the Deputy of the Governor-General, acting with the advice of the
Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the

War Precautions Regulations 1915.
(Statutory Rules No. 130 of 1915, as amended.)
The following new Regulation is inserted after Regulation 17d (inserted by Statutory Rules No. 151 of 1916):—
17e. (1) Any person who has entered the Commonwealth from the Dominion of New Zealand and who prior to his departure from that Dominion entered into an undertaking with the Government of that Dominion, or with some officer or person acting under the authority of that Government, that he would return within a specified time to that Dominion shall if so required in writing by a competent naval or military authority and within such time as he may prescribe leave the Commonwealth on board a vessel bound for New Zealand.
(2) Any person who fails to comply with an order of a competent naval or military authority given under this Regulation shall be guilty of an offence.
(3) Any person who fails to comply with an order of a competent naval or military authority given under this Regulation may be arrested and placed on board a vessel bound for New Zealand; and, until he can, in the opinion of the competent naval or military authority, be conveniently conveyed to and placed on board a vessel about to leave the Commonwealth for New Zealand, and whilst being conveyed to the vessel, and whilst on board the vessel, until the vessel finally leaves the Commonwealth, he may be detained in such manner as the competent naval or military authority directs, and, whilst so detained, he shall be deemed to be in legal custody.
