War Precautions (Passports) Regulations 1916—Regulations 5, 6, and 7—Amendments.
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of
Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make
the following Regulations under the

War Precautions (Passports) Regulations 1916.
Clause
“(ii
a ) any member of the crew of any vessel who signs on in Australia for an oversea voyage who satisfies a competent naval or military authority that he is by occupation a seafaring man;”
is amended to read as follows: —
“(ii
a ) any member of the crew of any vessel who signs on in Australia for an oversea voyage who satisfies a competent naval or military authority or a person authorized by a competent authority to act for a competent authority that he is by occupation a seafaring man;”
Sub-regulation (1a) of Regulation 6. which reads: —
“(1a) Before an alien seaman signed on outside the Commonwealth is discharged in the Commonwealth, he shall lodge his passport with an officer authorized to receive it.”
is amended to read as follows: —
“(1a) Before an alien seaman signed on outside the Commonwealth is discharged in the Commonwealth, he shall lodge his passport with an officer authorized to receive it provided that seamen discharged in the Commonwealth as a result of shipwreck, or for medical treatment in cases of grave illness, may be exempted by a competent naval or military authority from this requirement.”

Sub-regulation (
“(
aa )being the master of a vessel, discharges any alien seaman signed on outside the Commonwealth who has not previously lodged his passport with an officer authorized to receive it, or”
is amended to read as follows: —
“(
aa )being the master of a vessel, discharges any alien seaman signed on outside the Commonwealth who has not previously lodged his passport with an officer authorized to receive it or who has not been exempted from this requirement by a competent naval or military authority, or”
