An Act to amend the Victims of Crime Act 1994

The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory enacts as follows:

  1. Name of Act

    This Act is the Victims of Crime Amendment Act 2023.

  2. Commencement

    This Act commences on the day after its notification day.

    NoteThe naming and commencement provisions automatically commence on the notification day (see Legislation Act, s 75 (1)).

  3. Legislation amended

    This Act amends the Victims of Crime Act 1994.

  4. Police to update victims about status of investigations
    Section 16A (3)

  5. Section 16A (4), definition of change in status of an investigation

    substitute

    change in status of an investigation, for an offence, includes when police decide to—

    (a)charge a person with the offence; or

    (b)issue a warrant for the arrest of a person accused of committing the offence.
