His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Victims Compensation Act 1996.

Explanatory note

Schedule 1 to the Victims Compensation Act 1996 specifies the injuries that are compensable injuries for the purposes of the Act and specifies, as the standard amount of compensation for such an injury, a specified amount or an amount within a range of specified amounts.

This Regulation:

(a) increases, from $2,400 to $7,500, the minimum amount of compensation for the compensable injuries of domestic violence and sexual assault category 1, and
(b) increases, from $5,000 to $7,500, the minimum amount of compensation for the compensable injury of chronic psychological or psychiatric disorder that is moderately disabling.

This Regulation is made under the Victims Compensation Act 1996, including sections 12 and 88 (the general regulation-making power).

1     Name of Regulation

This Regulation is the Victims Compensation Amendment

(Compensable Injuries) Regulation 2000.

2 Commencement

This Regulation commences on 14 July 2000.

3     Amendment of Victims Compensation Act 1996 No 115

The Victims Compensation Act 1996 is amended as set out in

Schedule 1.

The explanatory note does not form part of this Regulation.

Insert after clause 9:

Regulation 2000

The amendments made to the table to this Schedule by the Victims Compensation Amendment (Compensable Injuries) Regulation 2000, and which relate to the amount of statutory compensation for the compensable injuries of domestic violence, psychological or psychiatric disorder (category 1) and sexual assault (category 1), apply in relation to applications for statutory compensation lodged on or after 14 July 2000.

[2]     Schedule 1, table

Omit “$2,400” from the matter relating to the compensable injury of
domestic violence.
Insert instead “$7,500”.

[3]     Schedule 1, table

Omit “$5,000” from the matter relating to the compensable injury of
psychological or psychiatric disorder (category 1).
Insert instead “$7,500”.
Omit “$2,400” from the matter relating to the compensable injury of sexual
assault (category 1).
Insert instead “$7,500”.
