Veterinary Surgeons Amendment New South Wales

(Serious Misconduct) Regulation 2000

under the

Veterinary Surgeons Act 1986

His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1986.

RICHARD AMERY, M.P.,

Minister for Agriculture

Explanatory note
The object of this Regulation is to prescribe, in the Veterinary Surgeons Regulation 1995, certain provisions of the veterinary surgeons’ code of professional conduct established under section 23 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1986 (the Act) for the purposes of section 22A (1) (d) of the Act. A veterinary surgeon’s breach of a provision prescribed for the purposes of that paragraph constitutes serious misconduct in a professional respect.

The provisions concerned deal with:

(a) the signing of certificates relating to the performance of a veterinary service, and
(b) drugs, antibiotics and other chemical or biological substances.

As those provisions are already prescribed, under section 22 of the Act, as provisions a breach of which constitutes misconduct in a professional respect, this Regulation also makes the necessary consequential amendment.

This Regulation also makes minor formal changes to clause 10 of the Veterinary Surgeons Regulation 1995 (replacing “bullets” with alphabetical listing and semi- colons with commas) for consistency with current drafting style.
