REASONS FOR DECISION TO DISMISS OBJECTION APPLICATION
Background
On 21 March 2001, the Government party gave notice under s 29 of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) of its intention to grant exploration licences EL/22238 and EL/9987 to Sirocco Resources NL (‘the grantee party’) and included in the notice a statement that it considered that the grant attracted the expedited procedure.
On 23 July 2001, Valerie Tambling and Ors on behalf of the Angwinmil and Warai peoples (‘the native title party’) made expedited procedure objection applications to the Tribunal.
The Department of Mines and Energy on behalf of the Government party has advised the Tribunal that on 1 October 2001, the exploration licence applications made by Sirocco Resources NL were discontinued.
Decision
The expedited procedure objection applications are dismissed pursuant to s 148(a) of the Native Title Act 1993 (as amended).
