The Parliament of Victoria enacts as follows:

1. Purpose

The main purpose of this Act is to amend the differential rates.

This Act comes into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

3.  Melbourne City Council to continue to apply differential rates

After section 161(5) of the Local Government

No. 11/1989. Reprint No. 4

Act 1989 insert— as at 1 July
1998. Further
"(6) Sub-section (1)(a) does not apply to the amended by
Melbourne City Council for the financial Nos 92/1990,
7/1998,
year ending 30 June 2000 or any other 54/1998,
financial year specified by Order of the 86/1998 and
98/1998.

(7) The Governor in Council, on the

recommendation of the Minister, may make an Order necessary for the purposes of sub- section (6).".

4. Environment Effects Act 1978

In section 2 of the Environment Effects Act No. 9135.
1978 for "Department of Natural Resources and
Environment" (where twice occurring) substitute
"Department of Infrastructure".
