The Parliament of Victoria enacts:

1Purpose

The purpose of this Act is to amend the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968 to limit the increase in the salary payable to members of the Parliament of Victoria for the financial year beginning 1 July 2009 to 2·5%.

2Commencement

This Act comes into operation on 1 July 2009.

3New section 3A inserted

After section 3 of the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968 insert

"3A   Temporary limit in increase in basic salary

Despite anything to the contrary in section 3 or 10, the definition of basic salary in section 3 has effect for the purposes of this Act for the duration of the financial year commencing on 1 July 2009 as if the basic salary payable as at 30 June 2009 were increased by 2·5%.".

4Repeal of amending Act

This Act is repealed on 1 July 2010.

Note

The repeal of this Act does not affect the continuing operation of the amendment made by it (see section 15(1) of the Interpretation of Legislation Act 1984).
