The Parliament of Victoria enacts:

1Purpose

The purpose of this Act is to amend the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968 to limit the increase to the salary that would otherwise be payable to members of the Parliament of Victoria for the financial year beginning 1 July 2012 to 2·5%.

2Commencement

This Act comes into operation on 1 July 2012.

3New section 3B inserted—Salary restraint

After section 3A of the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968 insert

3BSalary restraint"

Despite anything to the contrary in section 3 or 10, the definition of basic salary in section 3 has effect for the purposes of this Act for the duration of the financial year commencing 1 July 2012 as if the basic salary payable as at 30 June 2012 as determined in accordance with section 3A were increased by 2·5%.".

4Repeal of amending Act

This Act is repealed on 1 July 2013.

Note

The repeal of this Act does not affect the continuing operation of the amendments made by it (see section 15(1) of the Interpretation of Legislation Act 1984).
