Road Safety (General) (Speed Measuring Devices)

Regulations 2003

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1. Objective

The objective of these Regulations is to prescribe additional automatic detection devices and additional speed measuring devices.

2. Authorising provision

These Regulations are made under section 95 of the Road Safety Act 1986.

3. Principal Regulations

In these Regulations, the Road Safety (General)
Regulations 19991 are called the Principal
Regulations.

4. Definitions

In regulation 105 of the Principal Regulations—

(a)	in the definition of "control unit", for "302(d), (e) or (f)" substitute "302(d), (e), (f), (g), (h) or (i)";
(b)	in the definition of "speed calculation unit", for "302(d), (e) or (f)" substitute "302(d), (e), (f), (g), (h) or (i)";
(c)	in the definition of "vehicle detectors", for "302(d), (e) or (f)" substitute "302(d), (e), (f), (g), (h) or (i)".

5. Additional automatic detection devices

In regulation 302 of the Principal Regulations—

(a) in paragraph (f), for "Mk 1." substitute "Mk 1; and";

(b) after paragraph (f) insert—

"(g) the automatic detection device known

as the DCD ROBOT Digital Smart

Camera; and

(h)

the automatic detection device known Light/Speed Mk 1; and

(i)  the automatic detection device known as the REDFLEXred-speed system.".

6. Use of automatic detection devices

In regulation 303(c) of the Principal Regulations, for "302(d), (e) or (f)" substitute "302(d), (e), (f), (g), (h) or (i)".

7. Additional speed measuring devices

In regulation 305(a) of the Principal Regulations, for "(e) or (f)" substitute "(e), (f), (g), (h) or (i)".

8. Testing of speed measuring devices

In regulation 306(b)(i) of the Principal
Regulations, for "302(d), (e) or (f)" substitute

"302(d), (e), (f), (g), (h) or (i)".

9. Sealing of speed measuring devices

In regulation 307(a) of the Principal Regulations, for "302(d), (e) or (f)" substitute "302(d), (e), (f), (g), (h) or (i)".
