Electricity Safety Act 1998

Electricity Safety (Equipment Efficiency) (Amendment) Regulations 2004

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1.Objective

The objective of these Regulations is to amend the Electricity Safety (Equipment Efficiency) Regulations 1999 to—

(a)amend the performance criteria and labelling requirements applying to dishwashers; and

(b)amend the requirements for testing the energy consumption and the performance of dishwashers; and

(c)make further provision for registrable fluorescent lamp ballasts.

2.Authorising provisions

These Regulations are made under sections 154 and 157 of the Electricity Safety Act 1998.

3.Commencement

These Regulations come into operation on 1 April 2004.

4.Regulation 16(1) not to apply to registrable fluorescent lamp ballasts

After regulation 16(1) of the Electricity Safety (Equipment Efficiency) Regulations 1999[1] insert

"(1A)Sub-regulation (1) does not apply to registrable fluorescent lamp ballasts.".

5.Insertion of new regulation 24

After regulation 23 of the Electricity Safety (Equipment Efficiency) Regulations 1999 insert

"24.Transitionalcertain dishwashers exempt from new labelling requirements

An electrical equipment label for a dishwasher that was enclosed in a container or packaging immediately before 1 April 2004 is not required to comply with regulation 16(1), if at the time of supply—

(a)the label complies with regulation 16(1) as in force immediately before 1 April 2004; and

(b)the dishwasher is enclosed in that container or packaging.".

6.New relevant standards for dishwashers

In Schedule 3 to the Electricity Safety (Equipment Efficiency) Regulations 1999—

(a)for "AS/NZS 2007.1:1998" substitute "AS/NZS 2007.1:2003";

(b)for "AS/NZS 2007.2:2000" substitute "AS/NZS 2007.2:2003".

In the following table—

"AS/NZS 2007.1:2003" means Australian/New Zealand Standard, 'Performance of household electrical appliances—Dishwashers—Part 1: Energy consumption and performance', AS/NZS 2007.1:2003;

"AS/NZS 2007.2:2003" means Australian/New Zealand Standard, 'Performance of household electrical appliances—Dishwashers—Part 2: Energy labelling requirements', AS/NZS 2007.2:2003;

"Principal Regulations" means the Electricity Safety (Equipment Efficiency) Regulations 1999.
