Parliamentary Committees Act 2003
Parliamentary Committees (Allowances) Regulations 2005
The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1.Objective
The objective of these Regulations is to amend the travelling allowances payable to members of parliamentary committees.
2.Authorising provision
These Regulations are made under section 52 of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003.
3.Commencement
These Regulations come into operation on 1 July 2005.
4.Amended objective
In regulation 1 of the Parliamentary Committees Regulations 2003[1], for "allowance and the expense allowance" substitute "allowances".
5.Definition
In regulation 5 of the Parliamentary Committees Regulations 2003, in the definition of "Melbourne", for "the post office" substitute "the former post office".
6.New regulation 6 substituted
For regulation 6 of the Parliamentary Committees Regulations 2003 substitute—
"6.Committee travelling allowances
(1)The committee travelling allowance payable to a member of a committee for attendance at a meeting of the committee outside the member's electorate or away from the member's home base is the rate under sub-regulation (2) for each day the member attends a meeting of a committee.
(2)The rate of allowance under sub-
regulation (1) is the amount equal to 19×48% of one three hundred and sixty fifth of the basic salary payable to a member of the Parliament under section 6(1)(a) of the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968.".
7.Overnight travelling allowance
(1)In the heading to regulation 7 of the Parliamentary Committees Regulations 2003, for "Travelling" substitute "Overnight travelling".
(2)In regulation 7(1) of the Parliamentary Committees Regulations 2003—
(a)in sub-regulation (1), for "travelling" substitute "overnight travelling";
(b)in sub-regulation (2), for "a travelling" substitute "an overnight travelling".
8.Travelling allowances not payable in addition to residential allowance
In regulation 8 of the Parliamentary Committees Regulations 2003, omit "an expense allowance or".
9.New regulation 9 substituted
For regulation 9 of the Parliamentary Committees Regulations 2003 substitute—
"9.One type of travelling allowance payable
A member of a committee (including the chairman) who has been paid a committee travelling allowance is not entitled to receive an overnight travelling allowance in addition to the committee travelling allowance.".
