Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment Regulations 2011
The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1Objective
The objective of these Regulations is to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulations 2008 in relation to the use of leghold traps and other matters.
2Authorising provision
These Regulations are made under section 42 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986.
3Commencement
These Regulations come into operation on 1 January 2012.
4Principal Regulations
In these Regulations the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulations 2008[1] are called the Principal Regulations.
5Definition of qualified dog trainer
In regulation 5 of the Principal Regulations in the definition of qualified dog trainer omit "(Feral and Nuisance)".
615·5–21 cm large leghold traps permitted for trapping wild dogs in certain circumstances
At the end of regulation 30 of the Principal Regulations insert—
"(2)Despite subregulation (1)(d), a large leghold trap that is to be set or used for the purposes of trapping wild dogs may have a jaw spread of between 15·5 and 21 centimetres if the trap is set or used by a person who possessed that trap before 1 January 2012.
(3)Subregulation (2) applies during the period commencing on 1 January 2012 and ending on 31 December 2014.".
7Amendment to Schedule 6
In Schedule 6 to the Principal Regulations the items relating to regulations 13 to 19(2) are revoked.
