Gas Safety (Gas Quality) Amendment Regulations 2013

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1Objective

The objective of these Regulations is to amend the Gas Safety (Gas Quality) Regulations 2007 to—

(a)prescribe the standard of quality for the supply or sale of natural gas to all customers, regardless of whether the supply or sale is through a distribution pipeline or by other means; and

(b)provide that the odour requirements for gas do not apply to LP Gas or liquefied natural gas used or intended to be used for automotive purposes.

2Authorising provision

These Regulations are made under section 118 of the Gas Safety Act 1997.

3Commencement

These Regulations come into operation on 15 December 2013.

4Quality of gas

In regulation 6(2) of the Gas Safety (Gas Quality) Regulations 2007[1] omit "through a distribution pipeline".

5Odour

(1)In regulation 7 of the Gas Safety (Gas Quality) Regulations 2007, for "In addition to complying with the relevant standards referred to in regulation 6," substitute "For the purposes of sections 33(1) and (2) and 79A(1) of the Gas Safety Act 1997, it is a prescribed standard of quality that all".

(2)At the end of regulation 7 of the Gas Safety (Gas Quality) Regulations 2007 insert

"(2)This regulation does not apply to any one or more of the following—

(a)LP Gas used or intended to be used for automotive purposes;

(b)liquefied natural gas used or intended to be used for automotive purposes.".
