Road Safety (Vehicles) Amendment (Short Term Registration) Regulations 2017
The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1Objective
The objective of these Regulations is to amend the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2009 to provide for shorter periods of registration for light motor vehicles.
2Authorising provision
These Regulations are made under section 95 of the Road Safety Act 1986.
3Commencement
These Regulations come into operation on 1 January 2018.
4Principal Regulations
In these Regulations, the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2009[1] are called the Principal Regulations.
5Period of registration
(1)In regulation 43(1)(b) of the Principal Regulations, for "light vehicle" substitute "light trailer".
(2)For regulation 43(1)(c) of the Principal Regulations substitute—
"(c)in the case of a light motor vehicle, for a period of 3 months, 6 months or 12 months, as nominated by the applicant for registration.".
6Period of renewal of registration
For regulation 68(1) of the Principal Regulations substitute—
"(1)An applicant for renewal of registration of a light motor vehicle may nominate a period of renewed registration as specified in regulation 43(1)(c), even if the fee for the renewal is nil.
(1A)Subsection (1) applies to a light motor vehicle, the registration of which expires on or after 1 January 2018.".
7Application of certain fees
(1)In regulation 107(c) of the Principal Regulations, after "administrative fees" insert "other than a fee charged for a service provided in connection with the registration of a light motor vehicle for a period of 3 or 6 months".
(2)At the end of regulation 107 of the Principal Regulations insert—
"(2)A fee charged for a service provided in connection with the registration of a light motor vehicle for a period of 3 or 6 months must be paid by the Corporation into the Consolidated Fund in accordance with section 97(a) of the Act.".
