Firearms (Prohibited Firearms) Act

The Parliament of Victoria enacts as follows:
1. Purpose
The purpose of this Act is to amend the Firearms to the control of firearms.
2. Commencement
This Act comes into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

4. Cancellation of authorities.
Any authority of the Registrar issued under
section 32 of the Principal Act and in force
immediately before the commencement of this Actis, by force of this section, cancelled.
5. Amendment of section 32
(1) In section 32 of the Principal Act, after sub-
section (4) insert—
"(4AA) In giving an authority under this section, the given by the Minister as to the giving of such authorities.".
(2) For section 32(4B) of the Principal Act
substitute—
"(4B) The Minister, in consultation with the
Treasurer, may approve a scheme of compensation for making payment to any person who surrenders to the Registrar a prohibited firearm that he or she lawfully owned immediately before it became a prohibited firearm.".
(3) In section 32(4C) of the Principal Act after
"payment" insert "made under a scheme".
(4) Sub-section (4D) of section 32 of the Principal
Act is repealed.
