NEW SOUTH WALES
[Published in Gazette No. I50 of 11 November 1994]
HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the University of Wollongong Act 1989, has been pleased to approve the By-law made by the Council of the University of Wollongong and set forth hereunder.
VIRGINIA CHADWCK,
Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs
The Council of the University of Wollongong hereby makes the following By-law:
The University of Wollongong By-law 1991 is amended by omitting clause 34 and by inserting instead the following clause:
Rules relating to management of University
34. The Council may make rules for or with respect to all matters
with respect to which the Council is empowered to make by-lawsunder section 28 (1) (other than paragraphs (b) and (k)) of the Act.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The object of this By-law is to ensure that the University of Wollongong By-law 1991 reflects certain amendments made to the University of Wollongong Act 1989 by the University Legislation (Amendment) Act 1994.
The amendment to section 29 of the University of Wollongong Act 1989 provides that the by-laws cannot empower the Council of the University to make rules with respect to two matters about which it could previously make rules. These matters are the method of election of members of the Council (section 28 (1) (b)) and the designation of members of staff of the University (section 28 (1) (k)).
1994—No. 596
This By-law is made under the University of Wollongong Act 1989, including
section 28 (1).
