(Relating to the offices of Chancellor and Deputy Chancellor of the
University of Sydney) NEW SOUTH WALES

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the University of Sydney Act 1989, has been pleased to approve the By-law made by the Senate of the University of Sydney and set forth hereunder.

The Senate of the University of Sydney, in pursuance of the University
of Sydney Act 1989, makes the following By-law:
Chapter 1 of the By-laws of the University of Sydney is amended:
| (a) | by omitting from section 1 (1) (b) the word "third" and by inserting instead the word "fourth"; |
| (b) | by omitting from section 1 (2) the words “Subject to section 10 (1) of the University and University Colleges Act 1900, such” and by inserting instead the word “Such”; |
| (c) | by omitting from section 1 (3) the matter "3" and by inserting instead the matter "4"; |
| (d) | by omitting section 2 (1) and by inserting instead the following subsection: |
(1) An election to the office of Deputy Chancellor is to take place at an ordinary meeting of the Senate held:
(a) in March 1991; and
(b) in February 1992; and
(c) in February of every second year thereafter.

(e)
by omitting from section 2 (2) the words “Subject to section 11 (1) of the University and University Colleges Act 1900, such” and by inserting instead the word “Such”;
(f) by inserting after section 2 (2) the following subsection:
(3) Subject to section 11 (2) of the University of Sydney Act 1989, a Deputy Chancellor holds office until the meeting of the Senate at which his or her successor is to be elected and is eligible for re-election.
(g)
by omitting from section 4 the words “Subject to section 11 (2) of the University and University Colleges Act 1900, in” and by inserting instead the word “In”.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The objects of this By-law are to extend the term of office of the Chancellor of the University of Sydney from 3 years to 4 years, to extend the term of office of the Deputy Chancellor of the University from 1 year to 2 years and to ensure that the provisions concerning elections for Deputy Chancellor align with the provisions concerning elections for Fellows of the University.
