University of Queensland Act Amendment Act 1981, No. 30 211 BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- 1. Short title and citation . (1) This Act may be cited as the University of Queensland Act Amendment Act 1981. (2) In this Act the University of Queensland Act 1965-1973 is referred to as the Principal Act. (3) The Principal Act as amended by this Act may be cited as the University of Queensland Act 1965-1981. 2. Commencement. This Act shall come into operation on a date to be fixed by Proclamation. 3. Amendment of s. 6. Section 6 of the Principal Act is amended by- (a) in subsection (1)- (i) omitting the word " Professorial " occurring in paragraph (a) (iii) and substituting the word " Academic "; (ii) in paragraph (b), (A) in subparagraph (ii) omitting the word " Professorial " and substituting the word "Academic "; (B) inserting after subparagraph (iii) the following subparagraph:- " (iiia) one person appointed by and from the full-time staff (being the full-time staff other than the staff referred to in subparagraph' (iii)) of the University; "; (C) in subparagraph (vi), inserting after the words " more than two " the words " persons who at the time of appointment are "; (b) in subsection (3), (A) in paragraph (a), inserting after the expression " (iii)," the expression " (iiia), "; (B) inserting at the end of paragraph (b) the following proviso:- " Provided that a member of Convocation of not less than five years standing who is an enrolled student of the University shall be entitled to vote at an election held to determine the persons to be appointed to the Senate under paragraph (b) (vi) of subsection (1) and shall not be entitled to vote at an election to determine students to be appointed to the Senate under paragraph (b) (iv) of that subsection "; (c) in subparagraph (b) of subsection (6), omitting the word " Professorial " and substituting the word "Academic ". 4. Amendment of s. 8. Section 8 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting the second and third paragraphs and substituting the following paragraphs:- " The term of office of appointed members first appointed pursuant to subparagraph (iiia) of section 6 (1) (b) shall commence on the date

212 University of Queensland Act Amendment Act 1981, No. 30 fixed for the commencement of the University of Queensland Act Amendment Act 1981, and shall terminate on 31 December 1983. The second term of office of appointed members appointed pursuant to that subparagraph shall commence on 1 January 1984.". 5. Amendment of s. 10. Section 10 of the Principal Act is amended by, in subsection (IA), inserting after the expression " (iii) " the words ", subparagraph ( iiia) ". 6. Amendment of s. 31. Section 31 of the Principal Act is amended by, in subsection (1), omitting the words " exercise and perform " and substituting the words " perform and exercise its functions and all powers that are incidental, necessary or conducive to the proper performance of ". 7. Amendment of s. 34. Section 34 of the Principal Act is amended by, in the second paragraph of subsection (1)- (a) omitting subparagraph " (ii) "; (b) in subparagraph (xx), inserting after the expression " (iii) the expression ", ( iiia) ".
