BE it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :—

1. This Act may be cited as the "University of Newcastle (Amendment) Act, 1980".

(1) Except as provided in subsections ( 2 ) - ( 5 ) , this Act shall commence on the date of assent to this Act.

(2) Section 4 shall, in its application to a provision of Schedule 1, commence on the day on which that provision commences.

(3) Schedule 1 (1) shall commence on such day, being a day not later than 2nd June, 1982, as may be appointed by the Governor in respect thereof and as may be notified by proclamation published in the Gazette.

( 4 ) Schedule 1 (2) and (3) shall commence on such day

as may be appointed by the Governor in respect thereof and as may

be notified by proclamation published in the Gazette.

(5) Schedule 1 ( 4 ) shall commence on such day, being a day not later than 1st July, 1980, as may be appointed by the Governor in respect thereof and as may be notified by proclamation published in the Gazette.

3 .      This Act contains the following Schedules:—

4.      The University of Newcastle Act, 1 9 6 4 , is amended in the

manner set forth in Schedules 1 and 2 .

( 1 ) Section 1 0 ( 2 ) —

Omit "Six members", insert instead "Five members".

( 2 ) (a) Section 1 0 ( 5 ) ( b ) —

Omit "One member, being a member other than a professor of the academic staff", insert instead "Two members, being members (other than professors) of the academic staff".

(b) Section 1 0 ( 5 ) ( c ) —

Omit "One member, being a member", insert instead

"Two members, being members".

(3) Section 1 0 ( 7 ) —

Omit "Five members", insert instead "Six members".

( 9 B ) The person holding office as Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the University shall, where that person is not a member of the Council by virtue of any other provision of this section, be ex officio a member of the Council.

Omit "and Vice-Chancellor", insert instead ", Vice- Chancellor and Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the University".
