UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE ACT 1989—BY-LAW

(Relating to the term of office of a member filling a casual vacancy in the

office of an elected member of the Council)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the University of Newcastle Act 1989, has been pleased to approve the By-law made by the Council of the University of Newcastle and set forth hereunder.

The Council of the University of Newcastle, in pursuance of the University of Newcastle Act 1989, hereby makes the By-law set forth hereunder:

The University of Newcastle By-law is amended by inserting at the end

of clause 2 1 the following subclause:

(2) A member elected (or appointed in accordance with clause 22 or 23) to fill a casual vacancy in the office of an elected member of the Council holds office for the unexpired portion of his or her predecessor’s term of office.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this By-law is amend the University of Newcastle By-law to provide that a member of the University Council who has been elected or appointed to fill a casual vacancy in the office of an elected member of the Council holds office for the unexpired portion of his or her predecessor’s term of office.
