UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND ACT 1989—BY-LAW

NEW SOUTH WALES

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the University of New England Act 1989, has been pleased to approve the By-law made by the Board of Governors of the University of New England and set forth hereunder.

The Board of Governors of the University of New England, in pursuance of the University of New England Act 1989, makes the following By-law:

By-law No. 2 of the University of New England By-laws is

amended:

(a) by omitting from clauses 2 (1), 10 (3) and 11 (l), (2), (3) and (6) the words “University Secretary” wherever occurring and by inserting instead the words “Secretary to the Board”;
(b) by omitting clause 7 and by inserting instead the following clause:

Election procedure

7. Subject to the provisions of this Division, an election is to be conducted by secret ballot in accordance with the rules made by the Board.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this By-law is to amend By-law No. 2 of the University of New

England By-laws so as:

(a) to allow the Board of Governors of the University to vary (by rule) the procedure by which the elected members are elected to the Board (currently an optional preferential system of voting is required); and
(b) to replace references in that By-law to the University Secretary (a position
