TRANSPORT ADMINISTRATION ACT 1988—ORDER

(Relating to certain bus, ferry and rail charges)

I, Lucio Di Bartolomeo, Chief Executive of the State Transit Authority, in pursuance of section 85 (2) of the Transport Administration Act 1988, make the Order set out hereunder.

Commencement

1. This Order commences on 17 December 1995.

Amendments

2. The Transport Administration (State Transit Authority-Fares)

Order 1991 is amended:

(a) by omitting clause 6 and by inserting instead the following clause:

Family fares: fare exemption for second and subsequent children

6. (1) If an adult is accompanied on a bus or ferry journey by 2 or more children from the adult’s household, and if the appropriate charges for the journey have been paid for the adult and any 1 of those children, no charge is payable for any other of those children for that journey.

(2) This clause does not apply in relation to the State Transit Authority’s premium services, tourist services, special (racecourse) services or JetCat services.

(b) by inserting after clause 8 (6) the following subclause:

(7) A DayRover ticket issued by the State Transit Authority is valid only for the date shown on the ticket.

(c) by omitting from clause 9 the words “and Sydney DayTripper tickets” and by inserting instead the words “, Sydney DayTripper tickets and DayRover tickets”;
(d) by deleting from clause 13 the definition of “child” and by inserting instead the following definition:

“child” means a person who is of or above the age of 4 years but under the age of 16 years and includes a person who is of or above the age of 16 years and is the holder of a Railways of Australia School Pupil Identification Card-Form 202”;

(e)

by inserting in clause 13 after the definition of ”concession“ the following definition:

“DayRover ticket” means a ticket that allows:

(a)

unlimited travel on the State Transit Authority’s bus services within the Sydney Suburban Area; and

(b)

unlimited travel on the State Transit Authority’s ferry services within the Sydney Suburban Area; and

(c)

unlimited rail travel on the State Rail Authority’s rail services in the area bounded by Bondi Junction, Cowan, Carlingford, Richmond, Emu Plains, Macarthur (via Granville, via Regents Park or via East Hills), Otford and Cronulla;

(f)

by inserting in Schedule 1 under the heading “MULTI-TRIP FARES” after the matter relating to Sydney DayTripper the following matter:

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The objects of this Order are:

(a) to extend the availability of family fares so that an adult accompanied by 2 or more children from the adult’s household is required to pay the fare for only 1 of those children (the other children are able to travel free of charge); and
(b) to provide for a new type of ticket, to be known as a DayRover, which provides unlimited bus, ferry and rail travel within the Sydney suburban area; and
(c) to extend the definition of “child” to include a person who is of or above the age of 16 years and is the holder of a Railways of Australia School Pupil Identification Card.
