I, WILLIAM PATRICK DEANE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following Regulations under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997.

1Name of Regulations

 These Regulations are the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition (Temporary Exemptions) Regulations 2000 (No. 1).

2Commencement

 These Regulations commence on gazettal.

3Definition

 In these Regulations:

Act means the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997.

4Temporary exemption — offensive weapons and body armour

 For subsection 47 (3) of the Act, section 15 (to the extent that it deals with items other than firearms) and section 15A of the Summary Offences Act 1953 of South Australia are exempt from the operation of the Act.

Note This regulation is to continue the exemption declared by paragraph 5 (1) (b) of the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition (South Australia) Regulations 1999.

5Cessation of effect of Regulations

 These Regulations cease to have effect at the end of 22 September 2001.
