Traffic (Road Rules) Amendment (Urban Speed-limit) Regulations 2002

I, the Lieutenant-Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Traffic Act 1925 .22 April 2002

1Short titleThese regulations may be cited as the Traffic (Road Rules) Amendment (Urban Speed-limit) Regulations 2002 . 2CommencementThese regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette. 3Principal RulesIn these regulations, the Traffic (Road Rules) Regulations 1999 are referred to as the Principal Rules. 4Rule 25 amended (Speed-limit elsewhere) Rule 25(2) of the Principal Rules is amended by omitting "60" and substituting "50". 5Rule 371D amended (Wheeled recreational devices not to be used on roads with speed-limit over 50 km/h) Rule 371D(1) of the Principal Rules is amended as follows: (a) by omitting from paragraph (a) "60" and substituting "50"; (b) by omitting from paragraph (b) "60" and substituting "50".

These regulations are administered in the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the regulation) These regulations amend the

(a) lowering the default speed-limit in built-up areas from 60 to 50 kilometres per hour; and (b) prohibiting the use of wheeled recreational devices on roads to which a speed-limit of over 50 kilometres per hour applies.
