Traffic (Amendment) Ordinance 1984

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Ordinance under the Seat of Government (Administration) Act 1910.

An Ordinance to amend the Traffic Ordinance 1937

Short title

1.  This Ordinance may be cited as the Traffic (Amendment) Ordinance 1984.1

Principal Ordinance

2.  In this Ordinance, “Principal Ordinance” means the Traffic Ordinance 1937.2

Walking without due care, &c.

3.  Section 5 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting the penalty and substituting the following penalty:

“Penalty:  $100.”.

Driver, &c., intoxicated

4.  Section 7 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting the penalty set out at the foot of sub-section (1) and substituting the following penalty:

“Penalty:  $1,000 or imprisonment for 6 months, or both.”.

Bicycles to be deposited in bicycle racks

5.  Section 28A of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting the penalty set out at the foot of sub-section (1) and substituting the following penalty:

“Penalty:  $40.”.

Further amendments

6.  The Principal Ordinance is amended as set out in the following table:

Provision  Amendment

Sub-section 25 (3).................. Omit “Two hundred dollars or imprisonment for six months”, substitute “$500”.

Section 40 .............................. Omit “Forty dollars”, substitute “$100”.

Paragraph 41 (d)..................... Omit “Twenty dollars”, substitute “$50”.
