AN ORDINANCE
To amend the Traffic Ordinance 1937.

1.— (1.) This Ordinance may be cited as the Traffic Ordinance shortutie a n (* citation.

(2.) The Traffic Ordinance 1937 is in this Ordinance referred
to as the Principal Ordinance.
(3.) The Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordinance,
may be cited as the Traffic Ordinance 1937-1944.
2. Section four of the Principal Ordinance is amended— Definitions. (a) by inserting, after the definition of " animal", the
following definition:—
" ' approved ' means approved by an inspector; " ;
and
(b) by inserting in the definition of "public street", after the word "footpath" (first occurring), the words " (including a footpath within a colonnade) ".
3. Section eight of the Principal Ordinance is amended by vehicles, &c,
omitting the words " or rides " and inserting in their stead the driven, ridden

5. After section twenty-eight of the Principal Ordinance the
following sections are inserted in Part III . :—
" 2 8 A . — (1.) A person shall not, without lawful excuse (proof Bicycles to be
whereof shall lie upon him), deposit a bicycle in any place in any bicycle racks.
public street within fifty yards of any bicycle rack provided by the
Minister for the purpose of parking bicycles in that street.
Penalty: Ten pounds.
(2.) A person shall not, without lawful excuse (proof whereof
shall lie upon him), deposit a bicycle in any place within fifty yards of any portion of a public baths, other than in a bicycle rack provided by the Minister for the purpose of parking bicycles in the vicinity of that public baths.

An inspector may impound any bicycle deposited in con- travention of sub-section (1.) or sub-section (2.) of this section, and may hand over any bicycle so impounded to the Transpor t Officer, Transpor t Section, Depar tment of the Interior , Kingston.
(4.) A bicycle which has been so impounded shall be restored
to the owner on payment by him of a storage fee of Five shillings.
(5.) Any bicycle not restored to the owner within six monthsafter the date upon which it was impounded may be sold or
disposed of by direction of the Minister by public auction.

' whereof shall lie upon him), carry or convey any goods across a footpath abutting on an entrance to a shop for the purpose of loading or unloading those goods into or from a motor vehicle or other vehicle. Penalty: Ten pounds.
(2.) It shall be deemed to be a lawful excuse for the purposes
of this section if the person carrying or conveying the goods is a customer who has purchased those goods in the ordinary course of retail trade for use and not for re-sale.".
