TRAFFIC ACT 1909—REGULATION
(Relating to traffic light signals at toll booths)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Traffic Act 1909, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement
1. This Regulation commences on 15 May 1992.
Amendments
2. The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended:
(a) by inserting after Regulation 55 the following Regulation: Toll traffic control light signals 55A. (1) The Authority may authorise the erection of signs in the form of toll traffic control light signals for the guidance of the drivers of motor vehicles at places where a toll is required to be paid.
(2) The display by any such signal of a green circle is a direction that a driver facing the signal may, subject to the Act and Regulations, proceed straight ahead.
(3) The display by any such signal of a red circle is a direction that a driver facing the signal must not proceed beyond the stop line in respect of the signal or, if there is no such stop line, must not proceed beyond the signal.

| (b) | by omitting Regulation 61 (2) and by inserting instead the following clause: |
(2) The driver of a motor vehicle must not disobey or fail to
comply with the directions of:
(a)
any traffic control light signal erected in accordance with Regulation 55; or
(b)
any toll traffic control light signal erected in accordance with Regulation 55A; or
(c)
any lane control light signal erected in accordance with Regulation 55C.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
At present, the traffic infringement notice penalty fixed under Schedule K to the Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 for disobeying a traffic control light signal (including a lane control light signal) is $153.
The object of this Regulation is to amend those Regulations so as to provide a separate and lower penalty of $100 for the offence of disobeying a traffic control light signal that is located at a toll booth on any toll works such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the F4 or F5 expressway or the Sydney Harbour Tunnel.
