TRAFFIC ACT 1909—REGULATION
(Relating to the use of by vehicles and of bicycles and similar vehicles on
public streets)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Traffic Act 1909, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement
1. This Regulation commences on 1st April, 1993.
Amendments
2. The General Traffic Regulations 1916 are amended:
(a) by inserting after section 3B.1 (5) the following clause:
(5A) A person must not ride in or on, or cause, permit or allow another person to ride in or on, a toy vehicle on a public street if any person riding in or on the toy vehicle is wholly or partly assisted in propelling the toy vehicle by means other than human power.
(b) by inserting after section 3B the following section:
SECTION 3C—MECHANICAL ASSISTANCE IN
PROPELLING BICYCLES ETC. ON PUBLIC STREETS
Certain assistance in propelling bicycles etc. prohibited
1. (1) A person must not ride or cause or permit another person
to ride on a public street a bicycle, tricycle, quadricycle, cycle or
other similar vehicle designed to be propelled by human power if

any person on the vehicle is wholly or partly assisted in propelling
the vehicle by means other than human power.
(2) Nothing in clause (1) prohibits a person from riding on a public street a bicycle, tricycle, quadricycle, cycle or other similar vehicle to which is attached one or more auxiliary propulsion motors having a combined maximum power output not exceeding
200 watts.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The object of this Regulation is to amend the General Traffic Regulations 1916 so as to prohibit the use of toy vehicles (e.g. roller-skates) and of bicycles and similar vehicles on public sheets if any person using the vehicle is assisted wholly or partly in propelling the vehicle by means other than human power.
However, the amendment permits the use on a public street of a bicycle or similar vehicle to which is attached one or more auxiliary propulsion motors having a combined maximum power output not exceeding 200 watts.
The Regulation is made under section 3 (1) (a) of the Traffic Act 1909.
