TRAFFIC ACT 1909—REGULATION

(Relating to the obligation of motorists to stop and give way to toy vehicles

on a marked footcrossing or a children’s footcrossing)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Traffic Act 1909, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement

1. This Regulation commences on 3rd May, 1991.

Amendments

2. The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended:

(a) by inserting in Regulation 2 (1) in alphabetical order the following definition:

“Toy vehicle” means a vehicle (other than a bicycle) ordinarily used by a child at play or by an adult for recreational or sporting purposes which is designed to be propelled by human power, and includes a scooter, a stakeboard, roller-skates and similar toys.

(b)

by inserting in clauses 67 (2) (b), (c) and (d) after the words “is walking upon” wherever occuring the words “(or a toy vehicle is being ridden across”;

(c)

by inserting in clause 67 (2) (b) after the words “such pedestrian” the words “or toy vehicle”;

(d)

by inserting in clauses 67 (2) (c) (ii) and 67 (2) (d) (ii) after the word “pedestrians” wherever occuring the words “ or toy vehicles”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Regulation is to amend the Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 so as to require motorists to stop and give way to toy vehicles being ridden across marked footcrossings and children’s footcrossings.
