TRAFFIC ACT—REGULATION
(Relating to the classification and colour of drivers’ licences)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Traffic Act 1909, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement
1. This Regulation commences on 1 July 1991.
Amendment
2. The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended:
(a)
by omitting from the matter relating to Class 3A licences in Regulation 8 (1) the matter “13.9 tonnes aggregate weight” and by inserting instead the matter “15 tonnes manufacturers gross vehicle mass”;
(b)
by omitting from the matter relating to Class 5A licences in Regulation 8 (1) the matter “22.4 tonnes aggregate weight” and by inserting instead the matter “24 tonnes manufacturers gross combination mass”;
(c)
by inserting at the end of Regulation 9A (1) the following words: Alternatively, if the licence is a Class 3B, 4B, 5A, 5B or 5C licence, it may be coloured magenta.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
The object of this Regulation is:
| (a) | to vary the prevailing weight limitations applying to drivers’ licences of the Class 3A and Class 5A types; and |
(b) to vary the colour-coding provisions relating to photo-licences,
so as to conform with the criteria proposed for a national scheme for licensing of
drivers of heavy vehicles.
