TRAFFIC ACT 1909 - REGULATION

(Relating to rearward-facing camera operators on motor cycles)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Traffic Act 1909, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement

1. This Regulation commences on 12 October 1990.

Amendment

2. The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended by inserting

after Regulation 111 (2) the following clauses:

(3) For the purpose of allowing sporting or similar events to be filmed, the Authority may, by instrument in writing, exempt a person from compliance with clause (2) (b) to the extent that that paragraph requires the person to face forward while being carried on a motor cycle.

(4) A person exempted under clause (3) may (subject to the person’s compliance with any conditions specified in the instrument granting the exemption) be carried on a motor cycle without f ac ing for ward.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Regulation is to amend the Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 so as to permit the use on public streets of motor cycles carrying pillion riders facing backwards if the Roads and Traffic Authority has, for the purpose of allowing those pillion riders to film sporting etc. events, exempted them from the requirement that they face forward.
