TRAFFIC ACT 1909—REGULATION

(Relating to heavy vehicle tyre pressure monitoring systems)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Traffic Act 1909, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Schedule F to the Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 is amended:

(a)

by omitting from paragraph 45 the words “, or both” and by inserting instead the words “and tyre pressure monitoring system”;

(b)

by omitting from paragraphs 46A (1) (c) and 163 (1) (c) the words “and any signalling device” wherever occurring and by inserting instead the words “, signalling device and tyre pressure

monitoring system”;

(c) by inserting after paragraph 162 (2) the following subparagraph:
(3) The width of a motor vehicle may exceed 2.5 m (as
prescribed in paragraph 43.4.5 of Australian Design Rule (Third
Edition) 43/00) if it does so merely by virtue of the existence of

any tyre pressure monitoring systems installed on the vehicle.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Regulation is to ensure that heavy vehicles do not contravene the maximum overall width requirements of the Motor Traffic Regulations 1935
merely by being fitted with tyre pressure monitoring systems.
