TRAFFIC ACT 1909—REGULATION

(Relating to compulsory third-party insurance)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Traffic Act 1909, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended:

(a) by omitting Regulation 7 (2) and by inserting instead the

following clause:

(2) Every registration (including any renewed registration) and every licence (including any renewed licence), unless sooner replaced, suspended or cancelled, continues in force until 12 midnight on the date specified in the certificate of registration (or renewal), or the licence (or renewal), for its expiry.

(b)

by omitting from Regulation 13 (3) (f) the words “Transport Accidents Compensation Act 1987” and by inserting instead the words “Motor Accidents Act 1988”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The objects of this Regulation are, as the consequence of the commencement of certain provisions of the Motor Accidents Act 1988 relating to compulsory third-party insurance:

(a) to clarify the time at which the registration or renewal of the registration of a motor vehicle expires; and
(b) to replace a reference to the Transport Accidents Compensation Act 1987 with a reference to the Motor Accidents Act 1988 (the latter Act having repealed the former Act).
