TRAFFIC ACT 1909—REGULATION
(Relating to bus lanes)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council,
and in pursuance of the Traffic Act 1909, has been pleased to make the
Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement
1. This Regulation commences on 23rd October, 1992.
Amendments
2. The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended:
(a)
by omitting from Regulation 54 (6) (z) (i) (f) the matter “paragraph (aa1)” and by inserting instead the matter “paragraph (aa1) or (aa2)”; and
(b) by inserting after Regulation 54 (6) (aa1) the following paragraph:
(aa2) the words “bus lane crossing permitted” (with or without
the addition of words or figures denoting distance
and the direction represented by the traffic control sign on
which they appear is, that despite the provisions of
paragraph (z) the driver of a motor vehicle which isapproaching the traffic control sign from the direction in which it is facing and along a traffic lane which is adjacent to a bus lane (as referred to in paragraph (z)) above or on
which the sign is erected, displayed or marked may, between that sign and the next traffic control sign facing the driver on which appear the words “bus lane crossing

zone ends”, drive the vehicle across the bus lane for the
purpose of gaining access to another traffic lane, provided
that the crossing is made in accordance with these Regulations and may be made without the danger of a collision.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The object to this Regulation is to amend the Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 to vary the existing provisions relating to bus lanes to enable the drivers of motor vehicles not generally authorised to use those lanes to cross them, in accordance with relevant traffic control signs, to gain access to adjacent lanes.
