His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Traffic Act 1909.

Explanatory note

The object of this Regulation is to enable the Roads and Traffic Authority to reduce the registration fees payable in respect of the registration and renewal of registration of motor vehicles the subject of alternative vehicle maintenance schemes approved by the Authority. The maximum reduction that will be able to be given will be that proportion of the relevant registration fee that represents the cost to the Authority of conducting vehicle inspections. Vehicles the subject of an approved scheme are not required to be inspected by the Authority.

This Regulation is made under the Traffic Act 1909, including section 3 (the general regulation making power).

1 Name of Regulation

This Regulation is the Motor Traffic (Registration Fee

Reduction) Amendment Regulation 1998.

2 Amendment of Motor Traffic Regulations 1935

The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended as set out in

Schedule 1.

(Clause 2)

Regulation 4 Applications for registrations and licences

Insert after Regulation 4 (1B):

(1C)

The Authority may, in such cases as it thinks fit, reduce the appropriate fee in respect of the registration or renewal of registration of a motor vehicle the subject of an alternative vehicle maintenance scheme approved by the Authority.

(ID) The maximum amount of the reduction is:

(a)

in the case of a fee payable for registration or renewal of registration for a period exceeding 3 months, the whole of the amount of the inspection fee that would be payable for the inspection of the motor vehicle were such an inspection to be conducted under Regulation 14, or

(b)

in the case of a fee payable for registration or renewal of registration for a period not exceeding 3 months, one quarter of the amount of the inspection fee that would be payable for the inspection of the motor vehicle were such an inspection to be conducted under Regulation 14.
