His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Traffic Act 1909.

Explanatory note

The object of this Regulation is to amend the Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 to require a person authorised to carry out any scheme for the safe conduct of children across public streets to be 18 years of age or over and to wear a safety vest issued by the Roads and Traffic Authority.

This Regulation is made under the Traffic Act 1909, including sections 3 (the general regulation making power) and 4C (4).

1 Name of Regulation

This Regulation is the Motor Traffic Amendment (Persons

Supervising Children Crossing Streets) Regulation 1997.

2 Commencement

This Regulation commences on 10 January 1997.

3     Amendment of Motor Traffic Regulations 1935

The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended as set out in

Schedule 1 .

Schedule 1 Amendment

(Clause 3)

Clause 55B Schemes for safe conduct of children across public streets

Omit clause 55B (2). Insert instead:

(2) Any person taking part in the carrying out of any such
scheme must:
(a) have attained the age of 18 years, and
(b) wear any safety vest issued to him or her by the Authority.
